Collectively, Redeemer laity, the church members, read the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, in the two weeks leading up to the sanctuary decommissioning. As Pastor Randy stated during his sermon on February 21, “Redeemer is you, not the pastor, but rather the members, who hold the Office of the Keys. You dedicated the sanctuary in 1942 and now you read the Scripture and participated in the decommissioning of the sanctuary. Just you, God and His Word.”
And so members were invited to signup online for a scheduled time to read from the Bible. Members read from early morning until early evening. The readings were done in the sanctuary from the lectern. Members read for 10 minutes or 45 minutes. Members read as individuals, with their spouse, with their Bible study group, with their high school friends or their senior friends. “Just you, God and His Word.”
Each reader signed a historical document next to their selected verses and these pages will find their way into the the time capsule inside the new cornerstone when it is laid later this year.
