On Sunday morning, June 6, 2021, with morning temperatures already in the 80’s, Redeemer members and guests attended worship services at 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. At the end of each service everyone was invited inside the construction fence, to the front of the new sanctuary, for a groundbreaking ceremony.
A cavernous hole greeted everyone as Pastor Randy and Vicar Jim lead the assembled in a series of readings and prayer. Special guests from both the architect and construction manager were introduced and welcomed. After the doxology was sung, everyone was invited forward to put a shovel in sacred ground and have their photo taken for history. The cross and participants were on the same red carpet that had been under the altar in the old sanctuary. A special folder contained the order of worship and previous groundbreaking photos from 1941, 1951, 1970 and 2010.
In this June 6, 2021 photo (below), Redeemer members and guests assembled for the groundbreaking are dwarfed by the size of the newly excavated hole that lays ready for the soon-to-be-laid church foundations.
