What's Happening June 1 - 15, 2022?

Team Scurries to Complete Interior Finishes

The majority of the work on the Redeemer exterior in late May focused on the columbarium:

  • Masons completed the process of reinstalling the columbarium niches, granite face covers, name plates, red brick exterior and limestone caps.  The columbarium work will be completed in early June with the resetting of the existing ground pavers and the installation of all benches and statues.
  • Work on other exterior trim continued slowly with the ongoing installation of EIFS (wall cladding) and reglet (flashing), covering the remaining “purple” board that still shows on the exterior.
  • New AC condensers for the lower level and music wing were installed on the west side of the sanctuary.
  • Rough grading has begun in earnest in preparation for laying new sidewalks, ramps and steps around the new music wing porch, the front porch and the sanctuary east side (prayer garden, columbarium, chapel.)
  • New driveway lampposts will be installed around the front of the building (driveway and sidewalks).
  • The sidewalk work, to be completed early this month, is a necessary step before landscape work can begin later in June.

The interior of the sanctuary has seen a dramatic change with the completed installation of tile throughout the sanctuary and narthex, as well as the balcony:

  • The slate gray tile has been installed throughout the sanctuary main floor and narthex.  The 24″ square tiles were laid in a “running board” (offset) pattern.  The balcony tile was installed concurrently and is complete.  The tile in the new music rehearsal room is complete as well.
  • The installation of a traditional dark blue carpet has begun in the two narthex stairwells that lead to the balcony, as well as the balcony landings.
  • Every surface has received final paint: in the sanctuary, narthex and town square.  The color is a warm, creamy “dove white”.  Care was taken to paint key features (wood trim, round columns) in a satin finish.  The painters are now focused on doors and touchup work, as well as giving all the chancel pieces (altar, pulpit, lectern, baptismal font, chairs) a fresh coat of dove white paint.
  • Finish electrical continues.  New brass chandeliers were hung in the two balcony stairwells.  Existing historical exterior fixtures were saved and reinstalled.  Our historical sanctuary chandelier has been rehung in its new location.  Lighting for the dossal curtain has also been installed.
  • Wood trim work in the sanctuary, narthex and town square is in the home stretch:
    • The final chancel woodwork (communion rail, handrails, etc.) are being completed off-site.
    • The town square expansion is complete with the exception of the church office window and door.
    • 6″ baseboard has been installed throughout the chancel, sanctuary and will soon be complete in the narthex.
    • The balcony rail cap and new dossal curtain inside the reredos will be installed this month.
    • Door hardware (closers, kick plates, crash bars) are nearly complete.
  • Fire suppression work in the chapel and other existing areas has yet to begin.

The lower-level spaces (classrooms, fellowship hall, bathrooms, bridal lounge, etc.) are nearing completion:

  • All cabinetry in the classrooms and resource center have been installed.
  • Carpet and tile installation is complete in the classrooms, bridal lounge and fellowship hall, with only minor baseboard installation remaining.
  • Bathroom tile is complete.  Bathroom fixtures (sinks and toilets) are complete, and connections are nearly complete.  Bathroom partitions are still on the schedule.
  • Handrails have been installed on the lower-level ramps and hallways.
