What’s New This Week? 02-01-22 to 02-15-22

What's Happening February 1 - 15, 2022?

Carpenters, Electricians, HVAC, Fire Sprinkling -- All Working Simultaneously

Major tasks around the Redeemer exterior were completed by the end of January.

  • The masons have completed their work on the west side of the sanctuary above the music wing, and the music wing expansion itself.  The masons have had to work under heated tarps on days when the temperature drops well below freezing.  Later, the masons will “clean” all the exterior brick when the weather permits.
  • Work continues on the front porch that covers the sanctuary doors.  The framing is complete, the plywood roof has been installed and white trim boards are being installed.  Shingles are still to be installed, as are the four white colonial columns.
  • The ten windows that surround the narthex and balcony have all been installed.  These windows still need to be trimmed and caulked from the inside and outside.  The six large sanctuary windows on each side of the nave will be installed during the first two weeks of February.
  • The HVAC team will be installing two new air handling units on the flat roof above the expanded music wing.  Curbs, drains and isolators (sound dampeners) will first be installed before the air handling units themselves are installed.  With this work complete the carpenters can frame one last section of roof over the south side of the music wing.

The interior of the sanctuary has also seen a great deal of activity.  Multiple teams have all been working side by side throughout January.

  • A team of carpenters will continue with rough framing throughout the sanctuary.  The installation of the organ chamber, sanctuary soffits, light cove and HVAC attic space is nearly complete.  Framing the curved “barrel” ceiling is the major activity during the first two weeks of February.
  • The carpenters are also nearly finished with the installation of drywall throughout the lower level.  These rooms will receive a coat of primer paint in the near future.  In the sanctuary and accompanying rooms (sacristy, organ blower room, chancel storage, town square) installation of drywall continues throughout February.
  • HVAC ducts are partially installed in both the lower level and in the sanctuary.  Long ducts that run the length of the sanctuary are visible on the construction cam.  These ducts are hidden above the ceiling and inside attic space.  Work to insulate the ducts has recently begun.  This ductwork on both levels should be complete in February.
  • Fire suppression rough work is complete in the lower level and is well underway in the sanctuary.  These pipes run below the fire ceiling and above the curved “barrel” ceiling which is soon to be framed.
  • Rough electrical work continues in both the town square and the sanctuary.  Their work involves making the necessary connections to the existing building electrical service and finishing all in-wall conduits and boxes before in-wall rough inspection occurs.
  • The service line for natural gas in the building will be extended in early February to feed the furnaces necessary to heat the new sanctuary, expanded music wing and new lower level.  Installing the gas line brings us one step closer to the switchover from temporary gas fed heaters to the permanent heating system
